Seminar held demanding full transparency of government’s Cancun delegation

Demand for Mitigation and Reparation of Ecological Debt first, not be confused on Adaptation Financing Commitment

Dhaka, 13th November 2010. a seminar title “Cancun Cophoto2nference and Climate Justice” where CSO groups demanded to the government delegation for their position in Cancun conference. They also demanded that government delegation should demand mitigation first, and then reparation of ecological debt.

The seminar was organized by EquityBD and Rezaul Karim Chowdhury (Chief Moderator EquityBD) has moderate the session. Among others main speakers were Ghyas Uddin Ahmed MP, member, parliamentary standing committee on ministry of environment and forest, Dr. Ahsan Uddin Ahmed, Advisor, Campaign for Sustainable Rural Livelihood, Farooque Ahmed of MFTD (Media Foundation for Trade and Development);  Ziaul Haque Mukta, Campaign Manager, Oxfam GB; Badrul Alam, Bangladesh Krishok Federation; Mrs. Saudia Anwar, Network on Climate Change Bangladesh, Mahbubul Alam of WWB Trust.

EquityBD participating at Cop-16 in Cancun and organize following events during 27th November to 9th December 2010.

The conference of COP-16 of the UNFCCC will be held in Cancun, Mexico to search a way forward for keeping the global temperatures below of catastrophic level. This conference will also participated by thousand of CSO’s (Civil Society Organization), activists and individuals across the world paralleled to draw the attention in favour of poor and  developing countries towards a sustainable coping of Climate Change impacts.

EquityBD (Equity and Justice Working Group Bangladesh) a part of global CSO is participating in this session and organize the following events in Cancun favouring Bangladesh to draw the global community attention;

a.         EquityBD will organize seminar at UNFCCC official premise,

EquityBD along with CSRL, LDC Watch, SAAPE, Jubileesouth, and Shaptahik is going to organize a seminar title “Climate Migrant’s Right : Need of New Protocol” at official UNFCCC premise, Cancun messe, Room Aguila, 16.45 to 18.15 hours on 6th December 2010.

The seminar will mainly focus to draw the global attention and strengthen our voices from the South for a new UN Convention or Protocol which should recognize the rights to life and livelihoods of climate forced migrants.

b.         Organize Photo Exhibition on “Climate Change Impact in Water and Migration”

EquityBD along with CSRL and Shaptahik will also organize a photo exhibition in the UNFCCC official premise title “Climate Change Impact in Water and Migration” during the period 29th November to 9th December.

c. Evetns at Dialogoclimatico, a civil soceity premise

Same sort of seminar and photo exhibition will also be organized in CSO premise “Dialogoclimatico” premise during the period from 4th -9th December, 2010. Seminar will be held on 4th December 15.00 to 18.00 hrs.
